Montage Palmetto Bluff

It’s hard to get away when you have 2 kids under 3 years old. Thankfully, my parents love to be with our children and since they live far away, they often don’t get alone time with them. They offered to babysit for a weekend and we jumped at the chance to get some alone time if our own!

While I would have loved to go to Europe or California, we opted to stay closer to home as we didn’t have a ton of time and didn’t want to spend the entire trip on an airplane. My husband has an incredible list of hotels he wants to visit and suggested we go to the Montage Palmetto Bluff. At first I wasn’t convinced, but when I heard it’s where the Biebers got married, I was sold.

GETTING THERE

From NYC it’s a short and direct 1 hour and 45 min flight to Savannah Georgia. Once you land, you can grab a quick Uber or have the hotel set you up with a driver to the resort, which is only 35 minutes away. We opted for an Uber on the way there, and a car service on the way home.

WHERE TO STAY

The Montage is the only hotel on the 22,000 acre property known as Palmetto Bluff. It’s a “low country” community with residential homes, restaurants, tennis courts, walking and biking trails surrounded by wilderness and wildlife (seriously, we saw alligators everyday!).

THE ROOM

We got super lucky and they upgraded us upon arrival. We booked a King Room at the Main Inn and were surprised with a Lagoon View Cottage, which came with 2 bikes (which we used all day long to get everywhere). Our cottage had a fireplace, beautiful screened in porch overlooking the lagoon, steam shower, and clawfoot bathtub. It was fabulous!

WHERE TO EAT

There are only a few food options on the property for meals, but the hotel does have cars available if you want to venture out and try something different. On the property there is Octagon (we had breakfast here everyday!), River House (great spot for a fancy mean, dress code required), Buzz (for your morning coffee and grab & go items), Fore & Aft (mexican food by the pool), Melt (Ice cream!), Buffalo (delicious BLT for lunch), and R&T Market (a mini grocery store).

WHAT TO DO

It’s called low country for a reason. There’s not too much going on in Palmetto Bluff, but it’s a blessing.

Biking — We spent a lot of time biking around the property and exploring different trails, neighborhoods, and villages (Wilson and Moreland).

Boating — We went on a 3 hour private boat ride through the beautiful coastline. Our guide took us to a private island where we saw thousands of crabs and relaxed in a hammock. It felt like we were on a nature show!

Spa Day — We didn’t go to the Spa here, but a friend of mine said it was the best massage she’s ever had.

Pool — There are two different pools on the property. One is adult only and the other is for families, which serves food and drinks.

Tennis/Pickel Ball — We played Tennis one morning, which was so much fun. They also give lessons if you’re interested!

There’s also kayaking, fishing, nature walks & tours, golf, shooting, paddleboarding, and so much more!
