New Year, New Intentions

Happy New Year!

I can hardly believe it’s 2022. And unfortunately, for so many of us, we are still dealing with new variants and covid quarantines. And while that’s certainly adding a layer of stress onto everyone’s plate, I’m really trying to focus on the positive for 2022.

I’ve never been super strict with resolutions, but I do like to sit down and reflect on my year and make a list of goals for the year ahead. This year, my family and I all sat down on New Years Eve and did it together using Morgan Northway’s end of year reflections (she’s an ISU alum and absolutely incredible!)

While resolutions aren’t my thing, setting intentions and creating achievable daily habits and plans are something that keeps me on track. So, I’m sharing below a few things I did this week, and some intentions I’m promising myself for 2022. Starting with these mantras…

spring cleaning

I love to start the New Year with an organized home, and it’s never too early to do a little spring cleaning. I usually spend the first few weeks of January tidying up and organizing smaller spaces (it only takes about 45 minutes a day.) This week, I focused on…

our fridge: we ordered groceries from Whole Foods the second we landed back in NYC. While the fridge was empty, we quickly deep cleaned it, which makes a huge difference!

medicine cabinet: I always ask for new beauty products to try as Christmas gifts, because they are such a luxury! This year, I asked for Youth to the People Starter Kit, Goop Lip Balm Trio and Alpyn Beauty’s Triple Vitamin C Bounce Cream. Before finding a special home for these in my medicine cabinet, I threw out old products and only kept what I use on a daily basis.

my desk: while I continue to work at home, I decided to switch up my desk. I bought myself flowers to start the week, added a picture frame, and wrote in my new planner and notepad. I also bought myself new pens and highlighters — that going back to school feeling always helps to motivate me at the start of a new year.

daphne’s closet: At this point, you know how much I love the sortjoy bins I have in daphne’s armoire and around her room. I had made DIY labels for her bins so I could keep track of what was in them (but they were extremely flimsy!), thankfully, sortjoy came out with beautiful new labels to match the bins — they’re so chic and durable (and are easily erasable with the black chalk markers I used to write on them.) Don’t forget, you can use code KJACOBS for 10% off your order.

wellness area: For Christmas I got a new workout set, bala bangles, bala bars, alo yoga blocks, and a theragun. I reorganized our 3-tier rolling cart that holds all of our gear and coincidently ended up hitting my 500th Obe Fitness workout over the weekend (!!) I am so grateful for Obe for keeping me sane these past 2 years during a pandemic. I used to be obsessed with expensive boutique fitness classes and Obe provides such an accessible way to get in a great workout from home - I’m never looking back!

listen to my body

I’ve been intuitively eating for a few years now, and this practice has really helped me to tune into my body for all sorts of different things — like exercise, self-care, and even my relationship with alcohol (Quit like a Woman is a great book if you’re interested in learning more!). As we enter a new year, I want to keep listening to my body (especially with all of the postpartum changes that continue to surprise me!) If we can slow down and tune into our bodies, they tell us everything we need to know.

spend less time on my phone and more time being present

While the iPhone allows me to stay connected to so many of my family and friends from afar, I’d be lying if I didn’t say I’m completely addicted to it. As I head into the New Year, I’m going to try to be a bit more mindful about how often I open and scroll Instagram. I’d like to spend less time on my phone and more time being present. Instead of falling asleep scrolling, I’m hoping to read more books in 2022. A few that are on my current rotation (and I hope to finish this month) include Atlas of the Heart, The Wreckage of my Presence, and What Happened to You?

Here’s to another year ahead, Wishing you all health and happiness.

Xx
